“It’s not good-bye, but so long for now until we meet again.”

David Miller

At age 78, David J. Miller lived life to the fullest. He was an avid golfer—shooting a hole-in-one on the third hole of Lake Arrowhead’s The Lakes Golf Course at age 75. He loved woodworking and climbing the mountains in Phoenix.

One day, he walked off the golf course in the middle of a round of golf with shortness of breath. Within 48 hours he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia and passed within 72 hours of diagnosis.

His illness hit our family hard, but together we bonded to help raise money in his honor for leukemia research and to assist families with leukemia patients.

David was never one to say goodbye. He would always say “so long” — giving us the name of both our outing and organization: “So Long to Leukemia”.

Our journey has been ongoing and we had our first golf outing in 2012 at Lake Arrowhead, his home golf course. The outing has since moved to Ironwood Golf Course in Sussex where it has been held ever since. We have raised to date nearly $90,000, and we’ll continue to help get closer to a cure and finally say “So Long to Leukemia.
